The U.S. Government Documents collection in the Ex Libris Knowledgebases now benefits from an enhanced automated update process that improves collection maintenance and currency for libraries.
The improvement follows collaboration with the Government Publishing Office (GPO) and feedback from customers in California, Led by San José State University and SJSU King Library. As part of this effort, the dataset published by GPO was refined to focus exclusively on electronic resources, better supporting the needs of depository libraries.
Additional enhancements were introduced to improve how updates are managed from the GPO GitHub repository. A new N8N AI-powered workflow leveraging the GitHub API now automatically identifies new files and compares them with the existing Ex Libris collection before updates are processed.
With the updated workflow in place, new files are detected automatically and transferred nightly to the Ex Libris FTP server, helping ensure the Government Documents collection remains current and reliable.
These enhancements reduce manual maintenance efforts and support improved access to electronic government resources in library catalogs.
