The University of Helsinki, Finland’s largest and oldest university and a recognized AI-forward institution, has selected Alma’s Library Open Workflows (LibOW) to further modernize library operations and deepen its long-standing collaboration with Clarivate.
Building on momentum with Alma and Primo
Following positive experiences with Alma and Primo, the University of Helsinki Library sought additional ways to simplify integrations and strengthen digital services. LibOW was chosen as a natural next step in expanding the library’s open technology ecosystem and supporting the university’s broader strategy for innovation, digital transformation and open systems.
Why Library Open Workflows
Library Open Workflows is a no/low-code subscription solution built directly within Alma. It enables libraries to automate processes and create custom integrations using a drag-and-drop interface, without requiring deep coding knowledge or external development tools.
With LibOW, Alma users can easily leverage the Library Open Platform to create connections across a wide range of services and systems, including APIs, webhooks, cloud applications, forms, external systems, and emerging technologies such as AI models and AI agents. This helps libraries move faster, reduce technical barriers, and respond more effectively as priorities evolve.
Designed for agility and future growth
A key element of the partnership was Clarivate’s transparent and collaborative approach to solution development. Beyond demonstrating LibOW’s current capabilities, Clarivate shared how new features and use cases can be rapidly ideated, validated, and delivered. This approach ensures the platform can evolve alongside the library’s needs, supporting continuous improvement rather than one-time implementation.
The result is a more agile integration environment that allows the University of Helsinki Library to adapt quickly to new services, technologies, and research demands.
Looking ahead
With LibOW, the University of Helsinki Library gains a flexible foundation for automation and integrations that supports both immediate priorities and long-term innovation. Clarivate looks forward to continuing this partnership as the university advances its digital services and AI-forward ambitions.
