Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) has selected Alma, Primo NDE, Rapido, Leganto, Library Open Workflows, and Specto Starter from Clarivate to modernize its library technology infrastructure, improve staff workflows, and deliver a more integrated discovery and service experience for users.
An internationally renowned R1 private research institution, the university is focused on teaching, learning, research, service, and patient care. Its nine schools serve approximately 17,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from more than 100 countries and all 50 states. The strategic and responsible integration of AI is also a signature institutional priority, with initiatives focused on advancing teaching, research, innovation, and responsible technology use. WashU Libraries comprise a network of eight libraries, with extensive print and electronic collections and expert librarians supporting students, faculty, and researchers.
The Libraries selected Clarivate as they look to move away from systems that have been in service for decades and transition to modern infrastructure that can continue to evolve with their needs. The new environment is expected to improve both staff workflows and user experience while providing a foundation for future library services.
For staff, the implementation is expected to bring greater efficiency across library workflows, particularly in acquisitions and licensed resource management. Users are expected to benefit from improvements in resource discovery, interlibrary loan, course resource support, and access to purchased digital materials.
The implementation will also enable a single, shared link resolver, renewed integration of course support with the university’s learning management system, and a more integrated interlibrary loan experience. With online accessibility an ongoing priority, the enhanced discovery experience is expected to make information resources easier to find and use across the university’s schools and campuses.
