Over the past several decades the library’s position in the wider scholarly landscape has exploded into realms like data preservation, e-resource management, and increasingly more direct research-related support and services to departments, faculty, and students. Amidst this expansion, a languid development in the IR space has ensured collections are rarely complete or even representative of the institutional scholarship. Current workflows involve systems that incur faculty barriers and too much staff time. What if there was an easier way to demonstrate the library’s vital voice and contributions in these conversations?

Pardon Our Progress: Renovating UGA's Institutional Repository, Athenaeum

In March of 2020, The University of Georgia Libraries began the process of migrating our institutional repository, Athenaeum (https://esploro.libs.uga.edu/esploro/), from the DSpace repository platform to ExLibris Esploro. Over the course of about 14 months, we developed a migration plan, extracted and cleaned up data for import, and centralized assets from three different systems into the new repository. While there were a few bumps in the road along the way, with the combined efforts of UGA Libraries personnel and our implementation team at ExLibris we were able to successfully launch our renovated repository. This presentation will cover how we did it, what worked, what didn’t, and what we’d do differently if we had the chance. I will also talk about what we have planned for Athenaeum in the future so that we can continue to develop our institutional repository program into a service that meets our users' needs.

Breaking Out of the Box by Harnessing RIMS Analytics to Serve Researchers

Library system analytics can be applied to a wide range of use cases and the integration of a research information management system (RIMS) expands those options. From metadata quality checking, to customized publication list creation, to monitoring read and publish article publishing charge discount opportunities, analytics from the Weizmann Institute’s RIMS is helping the library work smarter and respond proactively to researchers’ ever-changing needs. Breaking out of the integrated analytics system’s standard boxes (aka tables) provides solutions in unexpected formats, supporting closer collaboration with faculty and students in research-intensive institutions. The Weizmann Institution of Science Library transforms analytics results and narratives into faculty-facing communication integrating context and metadata, supporting our scientists in complying with their research grant open access requirements while showcasing the portal’s features and services. This session will provide an overview of the experience thus far, outline the methodology, and highlight initial results.
