Libraries using Kanopy collections can now benefit from improved video discoverability in the catalog through a new Community Zone template that automatically displays video thumbnails using available Kanopy metadata.
The enhancement was developed following collaboration with the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press, whose Collections and E-Resource Management team shared the challenges associated with maintaining thumbnails locally for newly added content. Since the activated collection did not originally include thumbnails, records required ongoing manual updates to improve the user experience and increase resource visibility.
In response to this feedback, a scalable solution was developed to reduce manual effort for libraries using the collection.
The resulting template automates thumbnail display, eliminating the need for local record maintenance while improving how streaming video resources are presented and discovered in the catalog.
