Ex Libris, part of Clarivate, is excited to announce the University of the Free State in South Africa has selected the Ex Libris to elevate their offerings. They’ve chosen to implement both the Alma library management system and the Primo library discovery service. Implementation of Alma and Primo will support the library’s vision to be a world class digital and virtual information hub for its users.

One of the oldest and most respected academic institutions in South Africa, the University of the Free State was looking for a solution to modernize the library experience for staff and end users. By adopting Alma, Primo, and a library mobile solution – designed to work together holistically – the library can deliver additional resource coverage, simplify library operations, understand library analytics, enhance the user experience, and reduce costs associated with managing multiple systems.

The transition to Alma will unify the library’s management of print and electronic resources, while enhancing services and capabilities. Alma streamlines resource management workflows, improves resource selection, and acquisitions, enables better decision-making through robust analytics, and delivers seamless resource access with a built-in link resolver.

With Primo’s library discovery service, the University of the Free State library users will be able to more quickly find and access vital resources through an innovative discovery system that leverages AI and linked data technologies.  The University of Free State will further take advantage of Alma’s unified platform by implementing the Ex Libris integrated library system to provide a compelling, personalized library experience for digital-first users.

“University of Free State is excited to join Alma family, in line with University Vision 130, the library system has potential to adapt to the evolving landscape of library resources and technologies. It is a significant tool for modernizing library operations and improving the patron experience,” said Charlie Maphuntshane Molepo, University of Free State Deputy-Director Library Services: Research & Scholarly Communications at University of the Free State.

We’re proud to welcome the University of the Free State to the Ex Libris Alma community of more than 2500 libraries and support the institution’s commitment to research and learning excellence.
