The bX application will enable researchers to view article recommendations through the Elsevier SciVerse platform Jerusalem, Israel—October 26, 2011. Ex Libris® Group is pleased to announce that following an agreement with Elsevier, a bX article recommender application will now be available to mutual customers for integration in the SciVerse interface. The application will enable Scopus and ScienceDirect users to see bX recommendations—suggestions for further reading, generated from researchers’ usage data—along with articles that the users find in the Scopus and ScienceDirect databases. Elsevier SciVerse Scopus is the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality Web sources. Scopus contains 45.5 million records, which are drawn from 5,000 publishers worldwide, and 70% of which include abstracts. Elsevier SciVerse ScienceDirect is a leading full-text scientific database offering more than 9.5 million journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 11,000 books. Focused solely on the scholarly domain and used in over 1,000 academic institutions, bX is the first service to provide recommendations that are generated from researchers’ usage data. The article recommendations are based on an analysis of hundreds of millions of usage logs contributed by worldwide users of the Ex Libris SFX® OpenURL link resolver who are bX subscribers. A cloud-based service, bX can be integrated with SFX and the Primo® discovery and delivery solution. The bX service can be integrated with other systems via an application programming interface (API). Elsevier’s vice president of Application Marketplace and Developer Network, Rafael Side, commented: ”We are excited about the launch of the bX recommender app in SciVerse Applications and the added value it will bring to SciVerse ScienceDirect and Scopus users. We look forward to bringing recommendations of scholarly articles based on actual usage data from the collective wisdom of researchers around the globe.” ”I am delighted to launch this first groundbreaking outcome of the collaboration with Elsevier,” commented David Beychok, vice president of discovery and delivery solutions at Ex Libris. ”The bX service is unique in the discovery arena in that the service presents users with highly relevant material beyond what they find through their own searches. This important partnership will enable bX recommendations to reach researchers on even more platforms of their choice.” Companies that are customers of both Ex Libris and Elsevier can obtain the bX application by contacting their regional Elsevier help desk: About Elsevier For more information, see https://www.elsevier.com.
