Lisbon, Portugal
Datinfor, the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris products in Portugal, is pleased to announce that the Fundacao Minerva of Portugal will use the MetaLib® library portal and DigiTool, the digital asset management product, to achieve its goal of creating a centralized access point for the citizens of Portugal to all European information. MetaLib, together with the award-winning SFX® link resolver, will enable users to discover and access academic and scientific documentation regarding European matters from a single point. Results will include information currently scattered in diverse public and private institutions. In order to further facilitate access to this information, and to ensure its preservation, a substantial part of it will be archived in the DigiTool digital repository,
The Fundacao Minerva will further use DigiTool for the automatic download of information existing on pre-selected servers, specifically those at several European information centers and will allow for the direct deposit of information by Portuguese institutions into the repository. While a majority of the documents being issued currently are produced in electronic format, older documents–that exist solely in hard copy–will be digitized and archived to guarantee their preservation.
We are very pleased that the Fundacao Minerva has chosen these additional Ex Libris products to enhance the services offered by its libraries, says Manuel Arriaga of Datinfor. The management of the three libraries that make up the Lusiada Universities Cooperative – the University of Lisbon, the University of Porto, and the University of Famalicao – which houses a very large collection of multimedia resources is currently handled with ALEPH 500™. This purchase reflects the institutions satisfaction with our products and service.
About the Fundacao Minerva:
Fundacao Minerva for Culture, Education and Scientific Research was created in 2003 by Portuguese legislative decree, converting the Lusiada University Cooperative into an educational, degree-granting foundation.
