As a program participant, the college library will help revolutionize resource sharing, enabling a smooth, easy to use, and patron-focused process
Chicago, Illinois—December 1, 2020. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Gettysburg College’s Musselman Library has elected to become an early adopter of the Ex Libris Rapido™ resource sharing solution, becoming part of the growing Rapido community.
The new, cloud-based Rapido services will modernize the patron and staff experience and deliver easier, streamlined workflows for managing resource sharing requests. When requesting an item, patrons will be able to choose a delivery method, the preferred format of the material, the duration of the loan, and the expected wait time. They will continue to receive regular updates on the delivery status of each item requested. Being well informed will help users plan their study and research activities better and reduce the time they spend on the request process. In addition, libraries will benefit from new, dynamic options for interacting with resource sharing partners and for leveraging the partnerships to improve the patron experience.
Musselman Library looks forward to benefiting from the seamless integration of the Rapido solution with the Alma library platform.
As a participant in the Rapido early adopter program, the Gettysburg staff will be closely involved in providing product feedback and helping streamline the Rapido process to make each step as transparent as possible. The first release of the Rapido solution will be available to early adopters in 2021.
Musselman Library Director of Technical Services Jeremy Garskof commented, “Musselman Library looks forward to benefiting from the seamless integration of the Rapido solution with the Alma library platform, a combination that will equip us with automated fulfillment capabilities, make workflows more efficient, and enhance the user experience. Transitioning from our OCLC-based resource sharing solutions will reduce our costs; with the savings, we plan to provide patrons with a greater range of e‑resources—a staple of the pandemic era—and to implement new models of content access, such as controlled digital lending. By engaging with the Rapido early adopter program, we will ensure that the solution addresses the unique needs of small liberal arts colleges.”
“We are pleased to welcome Gettysburg College to the Rapido early adopter program,” remarked Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America. “Input from the college’s Musselman Library will play a pivotal role in revolutionizing the resource sharing domain.”
