The joint initiative will enable research libraries in the UK to easily manage and analyze their e-resource subscriptions
London, UK—November 7, 2013 .Ex Libris Group®, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a collaborative agreement with Jisc to help academic libraries manage their e-resources. The collaboration will improve library efficiency by continually updating data from Jisc’s Knowledge Base+ (KB+) to the KnowledgeBase of the Ex Libris SFX® OpenURL link resolver and Alma library management solution.
Jisc, an organization providing digital services for UK education and research institutions, recently launched KB+, a shared community service for academic institutions in the UK. The initiative is designed particularly to assist libraries in managing titles and packages that are centrally negotiated on behalf of several UK consortia: NESLi2, the Scottish Higher Education Digital Library (SHEDL), and the Wales Higher Education Electronic Library (WHEEL).
Liam Earney, Knowledge Base+ project director, commented: ”Through this collaborative effort, data from Jisc Collections will be continually updated in the SFX and Alma KnowledgeBase, thus enabling librarians to dedicate more of their time to user needs. Because details of e-resource packages from the cooperating consortia will be centrally managed and freely available under a CC0 license, we will be able to streamline the delivery of information about the contents of e-resource packages, for the benefit of library staff and end users.”
