The Rosetta preservation solution will protect KBNL’s growing digital collection for future generations
Jerusalem, Israel—February 25, 2021. The National Library of the Netherlands (KBNL) has chosen the Rosetta™ digital asset management and preservation solution from Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, to ensure its fast-growing digital collections remain safe for future generations. Rosetta is an end-to-end solution that enables the safe and secure collection, management and delivery of all types of digital information.
With the increase of digital publishing and large-scale digitization of KBNL’s printed books, magazines and newspapers, the library’s digital collection has grown to half a billion records, exceeding the capacity of its home-grown solution, which also struggled to cope with the diversity in structure and formats and provide functionality like reporting, workflow handling and metadata modelling. After an extensive view period in which KBNL worked with Ex Libris on the Proof of Concept, the landmark achievement of ingesting over 1 billion objects was achieved, and it was determined that the Rosetta solution provided the scalable infrastructure that KBNL was seeking.
We’re impressed by the new functionality and performance that Ex Libris’ archiving solution Rosetta offers us.
Further, its flexibility enables KBNL to define their own rules and workflows to meet current and evolving needs. In KBNL’s case, this means using the Rosetta solution to perform preservation actions on subsets of its collection to prevent loss of information.
“We’re impressed by the new functionality and performance that Ex Libris’ archiving solution Rosetta offers us,” said Jeffrey van der Hoeven, head of KBNL’s Digital Preservation department. “This solution gives us confidence in achieving our goals to guarantee long-term access to our valuable and unique digital collections. Moreover, we are very pleased to be working together with our newly chosen supplier Ex Libris. They are a leader in library solutions and a reliable partner in preservation.”
“It’s an honor to team with KBNL on this important project, protecting these important archives for future generations,” said Tamar Sharir Beiser, corporate vice-president of resource management solutions at Ex Libris. “As digital content continues to evolve to include more and more formats, Ex Libris and Rosetta will be there to support KBNL’s long term needs.”
