The first academic library in Poland to select Primo has started implementing a comprehensive discovery framework for scientific information resources
Warsaw, Poland—February 8, 2012. ALEPH Polska Ltd., the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris solutions in Poland, is proud to announce that the Silesian University of Technology has selected a suite of Ex Libris solutions to build a unified discovery service. Library users will enjoy an integrated experience that consists of the Primo® discovery and delivery solution, the Primo Central Index of scholarly e-content, the SFX® OpenURL link resolver, and the bX article recommender.
Combined with the Primo Central Index, which connects libraries to hundreds of millions of scholarly e-resources, Primo enables users to search the entire spectrum of a library’s collections—both e-resources and physical holdings—through a single point of access, and to receive a single, relevance-ranked list of results.
The agreement to adopt Ex Libris solutions comes as part of the EU-funded Innovative Economy Programme, which aims to increase the competitiveness of Polish science through the modernization of the research and information technology infrastructure at leading scientific institutions.
“The ability to search simultaneously in our local catalog and commercially licensed resources will streamline the search process for our users,” commented Andrzej Kolmer, who leads the university’s participation in the Innovative Economy Programme, and is also responsible for implementing the integrated search system. ”Results from our disparate sources, as well as those indexed in Primo Central, will be blended into one list and displayed with recommendations for articles that the user would not necessarily have found otherwise.”
“I am delighted to welcome the Silesian University of Technology to the community of Polish users of Ex Libris solutions,” remarked Maciej Dziubecki, CEO of ALEPH Polska. ”With the new Primo ScholarRank technology, which enhances relevance ranking with information about the item’s scholarly value and the user’s research needs, Primo will deliver a superior discovery experience for the university’s students and faculty.”
Ullrich Jüngling, Ex Libris vice president of sales for Central and East Europe, added: “We are extremely happy that the Silesian University of Technology has joined our 900 Primo customers in more than 80 countries, on six continents. The discovery suite of solutions provides the foundation for the future implementation of a unified system, based on the latest technologies, for managing all library resources. We are looking forward to cooperating with the university on further joint projects.”
