Using Esploro, the university showcases its researchers, their research output, and the impact of their work, making it easier to identify expert collaborators and enhance the institution’s prestige
Adelaide, Australia—November 12, 2020. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Australia’s Southern Cross University (SCU) has launched its online Researcher Profiles, powered by the Ex Libris Esploro™ research information management solution. The Researcher Profiles pages are part of SCU’s Esploro-based Research Portal, which showcases research carried out at Southern Cross University and provides access to scholarly outputs.
In the current landscape, many researchers maintain their academic profile on multiple social networks and sites. Furthermore, the profiles on universities’ portals are often incomplete and out of date; to revamp them, the researcher, an assistant, or the library must invest significant manual labor.
Now, more than ever, it is important for our research work and expertise to be easily discoverable and for our scholars to have the tools they need to describe their research trajectory.
Using the Esploro solution, an institution can automatically create and update researcher profiles, thus reducing the burden on researchers while exposing their scholarly expertise. These updated profiles facilitate the identification of collaborators across disciplines, advance industry partnerships, and open the door for new funding sources. With the Ex Libris smart harvesting AI, records of research assets are captured from multiple external sources, such as the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index, disciplinary repositories, and national repositories. The upcoming integration with ORCID will also enable scholars to automatically synchronize their ORCID and Esploro profiles.
Southern Cross University Director, Library Services – Alison Slocombe explained, “Now, more than ever, it is important for our research work and expertise to be easily discoverable and for our scholars to have the tools they need to describe their research trajectory. The Ex Libris Esploro solution provides these tools by bringing together all of a researcher’s outputs, from diverse sources, and showcasing them externally in a compelling manner. In addition, the Esploro research management capabilities enable us to systematically collect information that simplifies reporting for the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) national assessment framework.”
Nadav Doron, Ex Libris vice president of Research Information Management Solutions, added, “We are excited to be working with Southern Cross University, helping promote its scholars’ expertise and improve research discoverability. Our recent market survey reveals that 40% of research institutions lack a portal to expose their scholars’ work. This makes the task of monitoring publications more cumbersome than it ought to be. With Esploro, the library and research office can scale up their support for research and lessen scholars’ manual involvement in keeping their profiles up to date. The compelling interface encourages researchers to use their profiles and promote them externally.”
