Ex Libris™ (Germany) is pleased to announce that the Joint Services of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Committee of the Regions (CoR) has recently signed a contract for the purchase of ALEPH® 500 to replace the institutions local EOS International GLAS library system.
EESC/CoR joins the growing number of European Union (EU) institutions using ALEPH 500 including: the Central Library of the European Commission, the EC Directorate General for Education and Culture, the European Central Bank, the European Centre for Development of Vocational Training, and the European Court of Auditors. EESC/CoR expects to set up a joint implementation project with the Council of the European Union, which has announced its plan to contract for ALEPH 500 early in 2006.
Among the key factors for choosing ALEPH 500 were the systems state-of-the-art and open architecture, flexible user interface, and the ease with which ALEPH 500 will meld with the existing technology infrastructure of the European Union.
ALEPH 500 is the perfect system to integrate the information infrastructure of the many institutional EU bodies that continue to join the Ex Libris community, explains Jurgen Kussow, Ex Libris Senior Sales Consultant. ALEPH 500 incorporates the diverse requirements of the various EU institutions, which will ultimately adopt this system, providing a single, multilingual information access point for the documents and media hosted by the EU libraries.
