The Alma platform, together with the library’s Primo discovery and delivery solution, will facilitate library workflows and streamline access to learning resources
London, UK—June 26, 2018. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Università degli Studi dell’Insubria (the University of Insubria) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform to achieve greater efficiency through economies of scale, reduced management costs, and improved library workflows.
As with many other institutions today, the university is keenly aware of the growing demand for and importance of electronic resources. Over the last 16 years, the library’s acquisition budget devoted to electronic resources has increased by over 85%. At the same time, the available human resources have declined as the result of budgetary constraints.
We realized that adopting a single, integrated solution is essential to enable us to manage all of the university’s library resources.
Alessandra Bezzi, Director of the University Library System, said, “We realized that adopting a single, integrated solution is essential to enable us to manage all of the university’s library resources. As a long-time user of the Ex Libris Aleph integrated library system, Primo® to create a single point of access to print and full-text electronic resources, and SFX link resolver, we are confident that the Alma platform will fulfill our needs now and into the future. Alma will replace all the applications that we currently use for handling our various information resources and will support the comprehensive management of selection, acquisitions, sorting, cataloging, and circulation, regardless of the resources’ format or location. Our staff is especially looking forward to participating in the Italian and global Alma communities and learning how to benefit from the advanced features in Alma.”
With the transition to the Alma system, the library team will have an opportunity to revamp their workflows to achieve greater efficiency, thus freeing up staff to develop innovative new services for the library’s users. Library managers will be able to take advantage of the Alma analytics and reporting features to make data-based decisions related to organizational changes and resource usage.
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, said, “We are delighted that the University of Insubria will benefit from the power afforded by the integration of the Ex Libris Alma and Primo solutions. This combination will increase efficiency and unify resource management and discovery for the university’s faculty and students. We warmly welcome the university to the Alma community.”
