Cloud-based deployment, powerful analytics, and unified management and discovery for the whole spectrum of resources drew Leicester to Ex Libris solutions
London, UK—June 5, 2015. Ex Libris® Group, a global leader in library automation services, is pleased to announce that the University of Leicester has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® unified resource management solution to streamline business processes and workflows. The University has also selected the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution to maximize the discoverability of resources while improving the user experience and user satisfaction. These solutions will replace Leicester’s SirsiDynix Symphony® integrated library system (ILS) and ProQuest Summon® discovery software.
”Our current ILS, which has been in use since 1997, no longer meets our changing needs, and the business processes developed to work around it have led to a considerable duplication of effort,” commented Caroline Taylor, University Librarian at the University of Leicester. ”Furthermore, with the shifting nature of our collections toward greater numbers of digital and electronic resources, our system has become overburdened. When reviewing solutions that could satisfy our current and future requirements, we observed a trend toward cloud-based rather than locally hosted systems, as well as solutions that offer the business intelligence and management information that today’s libraries need for demonstrating their value to their institution. Alma provides all of these features. With the Primo discovery system, our students and researchers will enjoy fast, easy searching; personalized relevance ranking; and opportunities for serendipitous discovery.”
Koby Rosenthal, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris Europe, remarked: ”We are pleased to welcome the University of Leicester to the large community of Alma and Primo institutions in the UK and worldwide. By helping the library fulfill its mission, our solutions will be lending support to the University in achieving its academic and strategic goals. We are looking forward to working with Leicester in the implementation of Alma and Primo.”
