The launch of Leganto at the University will increase faculty engagement in reading list creation, enhance students’ learning experience, and enable the library to optimize collections
London, UK—April 4, 2019. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the University of Salford will be implementing the Ex Libris Leganto™ reading list solution to simplify the creation of reading lists, increase student engagement and success, and help ensure resource availability.
The management of reading lists at the University of Salford currently involves multiple systems, leading to a limited integration between reading lists, the library management system and the discovery interface. As a result, the library must carry out complex workflows to acquire resources and students have difficulty finding the resources on their reading lists. Instructors find the list creation process difficult, leading them to construct reading lists outside the library system. Without the involvement of the library in this process, collection development cannot be properly planned, and the University has an incomplete view of the impact of library resources and staff and of student engagement.
We anticipate that simplified workflows will increase the academic staff’s engagement, enable students to access relevant quality materials to support their learning, and assist the library in purchasing resources in an efficient and timely manner.
University Librarian David Clay explained, “Our strategic vision states that ‘by pioneering exceptional industry partnerships we will lead the way in real world experiences, preparing students for life.’
“The library supports this vision by connecting students, faculty, partners and community users to resources, data, archives and the University’s scholarly outputs, all with expert help and guidance. We anticipate that simplified workflows will increase the academic staff’s engagement, enable students to access relevant quality materials to support their learning, and assist the library in purchasing resources in an efficient and timely manner.”
The Leganto reading list solution is integrated with the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Ex Libris Primo® discovery interface. Through this seamless integration, the library will provide a streamlined discovery experience for users, facilitating their access to electronic resources on their reading lists. The Leganto interface is intuitive and easy-to-use, ensuring that faculty can easily create and update their reading lists. In addition, creators of reading lists in Leganto will be able to collaborate with their academic partners and share their lists with interested colleagues. Advanced analytics will offer library staff insight into students’ engagement with both reading lists and library resources, thus enabling librarians to make data-driven decisions when planning new services and developing collections.
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, said, “The University of Salford library’s decision to adopt the Leganto solution reflects an increasing trend toward integrating reading list services with a discovery tool and with acquisition and provisioning workflows to ensure a seamless experience for faculty and students. I am pleased that Leganto has been chosen to help Salford further improve the excellent support for teaching and learning provided by the University library.”
