The cloud-based Esploro research repository will help the Institute automatically capture research output and address open-access requirements
Jerusalem, Israel—September 26, 2019. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science has selected the Ex Libris Esploro™ research services solution to help the institute capture research output and data from external sources, showcase the institute’s research work, and comply with funders’ open-access policies. The Esploro solution will replace Weizmann’s institutional research repository and will be integrated with the institute’s research information system.
The British scientific journal Nature has ranked the Weizmann Institute of Science one of the top three academic institutions worldwide. Among the institute’s many award winners are a Nobel Prize laureate and three Turing Award recipients. Weizmann’s publication database contains over 55,000 Weizmann-affiliated works.
Libraries can play a central role in supporting and showcasing institutional research, and we believe that Esploro will contribute to achieving this goal through increased library efficiencies, improved metadata, better integration with research and library systems, and easier compliance with funders’ mandates.
The institute determined that it needed to strengthen the management of its research output and address a variety of challenges, including compliance with open-access mandates and the tracking of research metrics. The Esploro solution meets all of these requirements.
The Institute is a long-time user of the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Primo® library discovery solution, which, like the Esploro solution, are built on the Ex Libris higher-education cloud platform.
Weizmann Library Director Joan Kolarik commented, “We are excited by the opportunities that Esploro brings. The Weizmann Library is a small organization with big ambitions. Libraries can play a central role in supporting and showcasing institutional research, and we believe that Esploro will contribute to achieving this goal through increased library efficiencies, improved metadata, better integration with research and library systems, and easier compliance with funders’ mandates.”
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA said, “We are honored to partner with Weizmann, a world-class research institution and the first Esploro customer in Israel. The Esploro solution will enable Weizmann to manage all research output and data in one place and automatically and comprehensively populate and enrich metadata, increasing the discoverability and impact of researchers’ work.”
