RapidILL interlibrary loan services will enable the library to enhance the user experience, providing quick and easy access to resources
Chicago, Illinois—July 26, 2021. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) has selected the Ex Libris RapidILL™ resource sharing platform to enhance the institution’s interlibrary loan activities and better serve the needs of its community. WKU is the first university in mainland China to adopt the RapidILL solution. The university will be joining the global RapidILL community, which consists of more than 500 worldwide institutions.
WKU is a friendship project between Zhejiang Province in China and New Jersey in the United States. Established in 2014, the university provides an immersive Chinese cultural experience with American academic programs that mirror those given at Kean University in New Jersey. A public university based in the Chinese city of Wenzhou, WKU is committed to preparing high-performing Chinese and international students to become innovative, entrepreneurial leaders in a knowledge-based economy.
RapidILL will be a much-needed supplement to our library-subscribed resources.
With RapidILL reciprocal lending, WKU will engage in dynamic, pioneering resource sharing that will provide users with significant cost savings on loaned resources while dramatically improving the student and faculty experience. The RapidILL solution achieves such savings by eliminating various fees, expediting processing, leveraging the library’s own print and electronic journal holdings, and reducing the amount of staff time required for handling interlibrary loan requests. Today, RapidILL services are in use at more than 500 institutions around the world.
“RapidILL will be a much-needed supplement to our library-subscribed resources,” said Le Yang, WKU’s library director. “By expanding access to materials and expediting their delivery to users, we will improve teaching, learning, and research for our entire community.”
“Ex Libris congratulates Wenzhou-Kean University for being the first institution in China to acquire the RapidILL interlibrary loan and resource sharing system, which carries out quick, efficient loan transactions and supports students, faculty, and researchers both on campus and remotely,” commented Osher Gilinsky, Ex Libris corporate vice president and general manager for the APAC region. “The RapidILL solution not only gives patrons greater access to collections outside their own library but also increases the visibility of the university’s own holdings. The expansion of the RapidILL service into China will also enable the large international RapidILL community to access Chinese materials in the WKU collections.”
