Ex Libris™, part of Clarivate™, is kicking off 2025 by showcasing its AI service innovations on a new dedicated webpage. The resource highlights an initial set of AI-based tools, developed in close collaboration with the academic community, designed to enhance library operations and user experiences. These solutions demonstrate Ex Libris’ commitment to delivering top-tier services that enhance research, improve student learning outcomes, and increase staff productivity.

One of the key areas of focus for Clarivate is to simplify the research process for library users. One such advanced AI tool available through Ex Libris is the Primo Research Assistant. Currently available to all PrimoTM customers, it makes it easier to start research and refine searches by providing users with summaries and source references. This intuitive approach helps users dive deeper into topics with less frustration.

As reflected on the webpage, AI assistants aren’t just for research but they are also for library staff. Metadata management is an area where AI is providing AlmaTM significant value today. An AI-based generator is enriching bibliographic records, improving their quality and discoverability. This ensures that library resources are more accessible to users.

Another AI application highlighted is the AI Metadata Assistant for Alma. Currently in a phase 1 preview for all Alma customers, to become generally available in February, this AI-based tool streamlines workflows by suggesting metadata, which reduces the time needed for record creation and research. This allows staff to focus on more complex and impactful tasks, boosting overall productivity.

Libraries with digital collections can also benefit from AI capabilities from Ex Libris™. SpectoTM will connect all stages of digital collection management, from metadata creation to preservation and exhibition – providing assistance to both library users and staff. This comprehensive approach makes digital collections more accessible and helps libraries share their resources, and stories, more effectively.

This AI suite of services is built on the Clarivate™ AI platform, ensuring a centralized and consistent approach to security, privacy, and more. Further enrichment of each will continue, along with continued AI innovation for Ex Libris services, to ensure that libraries are able to take advantage of the latest AI technologies and capabilities.

Visit the Ex Libris AI services webpage to learn more about these innovative tools and gain further insight into the full scope of the Clarivate Academic AI portfolio offering.
