Ex Libris, part of Clarivate, is pleased to announce that the New York University (NYU) recently chose the Alma library management system and the Primo discovery solution. A growing number of member institutions of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) have joined the Alma community, and NYU is the 81st to do so.
NYU’s partnership with Clarivate includes the Bobst Library, NYU Health Sciences Library, the NYU libraries in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, as well as the Research Libraries Association of South Manhattan (Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York Historical Society, the New York School of Interior Design, and The New School libraries).
Alma and Primo will provide more unified library workflows that make it easier for researchers, faculty, and patrons to take full advantage of the libraries’ extensive collections and the rich metadata that surrounds them. Two of the features that appealed to NYU were Alma’s electronic resource management (ERM) functionality and the simplicity of a cloud-hosted system.
Nina Servzzi, Associate Dean for Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services at NYU said:
“We have a large electronic resource collection that will continue to grow exponentially. Alma’s integration of ERM functionality in the library services platform was of primary importance for us. Since the Libraries serve a globally networked university, we need to ensure seamless access to resources for our faculty and students no matter their geographic location. Streamlined management of our electronic resources will help us meet this goal. In addition, we are transitioning our IT services away from local systems, so Alma’s cloud-based platform was another significant factor.”
Alma and Primo’s services will create a modern and productive user experience for patrons while enabling staff to provide better decision support as library leadership seek to extend the libraries collections, keep them current, and make them available at the point of need.
Alma and Primo will help facilitate collaboration between libraries, both within and beyond NYU. Alma and Primo’s analytics and reporting features will enable the library to monitor and optimize its collection development. NYU will be migrating from Aleph to Alma.
Alma is a cloud-based library services platform used by more than 2,400 libraries around the world. Alma offers a unified approach to managing print, electronic, and digital materials in a single interface that includes multiple integrations with other tools for student success, research and learning, and library management.
Primo helps libraries maximize the exposure of their library collections and provides students and researchers with fast access to scholarly materials and intuitive ways to explore new content. Primo is a modern discovery solution that helps all users better explore the library from anywhere.
