The online archive catalog in Italy will preserve documents and promote the cultural and social heritage of the region.
Sasso Marconi (BO), Italy—June 26, 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the Archive of Published Documents of the Lombardy Region of Italy is now available online via the Primo discovery and delivery solution.
Since 2004, all publications and broadcasts in any media intended for public consumption in Italy have been submitted for legal deposit to preserve Italy’s cultural and social heritage. To meet this requirement, the regional government of Lombardy and the Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura (BEIC) Foundation created the Archive of Lombardy’s Published Documents.
Danilo Deana, technical director of the BEIC Foundation, explains: “Primo has enabled us to create a catalog of cultural documents and broadcasts in Lombardy that preserves the knowledge of regional culture and social life and makes such knowledge freely available to all. Furthermore, the catalog ensures that we are fulfilling the requirements of the Statement of International Cataloguing Principles. The flexibility of Primo enables the Foundation staff to modify data normalization rules and optimize the search experience by enriching bibliographic data and maintaining its consistency.”
Liliana Morotti, general manager of Ex Libris Italy, commented: ”We are delighted that the Lombardy Archive of Published Documents has gone live with Primo—becoming the latest addition to the growing, dynamic Italian Primo community. Primo offers members of the public in Lombardy a rich discovery and delivery experience that enables the Archive’s extensive collections to receive the exposure that they deserve.”
About the Archive of Lombardy’s Published Documents
The Lombardy Region has entrusted the management of the Archive of Published Documents in Lombardy to the BEIC Foundation, with the support of the Braidense National Library. As of April 2014, there were 133,467 records in the archive. The legal deposit program is intended to build a national and regional archive of published documents.
