The new platform will help the library manage its collections and reduce operational inefficiencies and costs
Yokohama, Japan—October 8, 2019. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Bukkyo University library has selected the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform. It will be used in conjunction with the Ex Libris Summon® discovery service, which the university implemented in 2011. Bukkyo University is replacing a locally developed integrated library system (ILS) with the Alma platform.
With the adoption of Alma services, Bukkyo University will be able to efficiently manage its growing collections of e-journals and e-books, digital as well as physical collections. The sophisticated features of this library management system could not be realized with a conventional homegrown ILS.
We expect that the Alma cloud platform will lead to a reduction in library system operations, including the maintenance and replacement of on-premise servers. We are looking forward to eliminating these time-consuming tasks once and for all.
“We expect that the Alma cloud platform will lead to a reduction in library system operations, including the maintenance and replacement of on-premise servers. We are looking forward to eliminating these time-consuming tasks once and for all. In addition, we are delighted to be able to use the Alma services along with Summon, with which we are very familiar,” commented Katsunori Iino, Senior Systems and e-Resources Librarian of Bukkyo University Library.
Osher Gilinsky, general manager of Ex Libris Asia Pacific and corporate vice president, said, “We are happy to welcome Bukkyo University to the Alma community. This implementation is a big step for Ex Libris and for universities in Japan. Bukkyo University will set a great example for other institutions as it innovates library operations that have been handled by decades-old systems. The adoption of the Alma platform reflects Bukkyo University’s confidence in Ex Libris, earned from the library’s many years of experience with the Summon discovery service.”
