Barcelona, Spain
GreenData, the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris products in Spain, is pleased to announce that the Consortium of Academic Libraries of Catalonia and the public library networks of the Diputació de Barcelona, and the Generalitat de Catalunya have selected MetaLib® and SFX® as their metasearch and linking technologies. Besides the two public library networks, this agreement includes eight universities, and a national library.
Lluis Anglada, Director of the Consortium of Academic Libraries of Catalonia, who managed the selection process on behalf of the consortium comments: “In the last 10 years we have improved our library services through the cooperation of the consortium members. We have devoted a lot of effort to building a digital library for Catalonia, licensing electronic information, and maintaining e-repositories. We believe that the Ex Libris software will serve to improve library patron access to digital information—a great step forward in better managing information in the new information era.”
We are very pleased to have won this series of contracts, explains Hugo Agud, General Manager of GreenData. Following a comprehensive and rigorous analysis process, performed by several specialised committees, MetaLib and SFX were selected from amongst seven competing products. The Ex Libris products stood up especially well in the areas of technology, functionality, service, experience, and integration with other systems.
About the Consortium of Academic Libraries of Catalonia (CBUC):
In 1990 three universities in Catalonia ran home-grown automated library systems. Within five years, the number of universities grew and joined together to seek an automated system to serve what had become a consortium. The CBUC has rapidly become an essential element in the Catalan library system, handling incorporation of new libraries, consolidation of new programs and the establishment of the Digital Library of Catalonia.
Many of CBUCs current activities focus on the Digital Library of Catalonia, aimed at contracting an interdisciplinary core of databases and electronic journals. Underlying this work is a vision of the future in which the libraries will increasingly base their services on electronic documentation.
