EMU, an Intota development partner, will also benefit from Alma’s unified workflows across all resource types
Chicago, IL—November 17, 2016. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Eastern Michigan University (EMU) is adopting the Ex Libris Alma® library management service to replace the university library’s Voyager® integrated library system, which EMU has been using for nearly 20 years. EMU, which runs the ProQuest Summon® discovery service, will be the first institution to integrate Summon and Alma. In addition, having collaborated with ProQuest as an Intota development partner, EMU will continue to advise Ex Libris on the incorporation of Intota features into the Alma service.
With Alma, the EMU Library is looking forward to managing all its resources—physical, digital, and electronic—in a truly unified manner. Improved workflows will include a single process for activating new e-resources and setting them up for linking, discovery, and management.
Susann deVries, interim university librarian and department head at EMU, explained, ”Connecting patrons with collections for knowledge creation is the bedrock of Eastern Michigan University’s mission and values. Our team has established a productive partnership with Ex Libris to realize the Library’s values as we become the first library to implement the Summon-Alma integration. This project will provide new capabilities for supporting discovery and will offer end users advanced, integrated patron services.”
Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America, noted, ”We are thrilled to be working with the Eastern Michigan University Library on this important project. The integration of Summon and Alma offers libraries a greater choice of discovery services. The use of Summon, coupled with Alma, will greatly enhance the current discovery capabilities, leading to a much better patron experience.”
