The world’s largest academic library chose the leading Alma service to unify library management across 70 Harvard Library units
Chicago, IL—December 14, 2016. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Harvard Library has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library management service as part of the Library’s strategy to support research, teaching, and learning. Harvard University is the second Ivy League school and the 33rd member of the Association of Research Libraries® (ARL) to opt for the Alma solution. The largest academic library in the world, Harvard Library is a key partner for scholars and students in their intellectual and academic endeavors.
With its unified resource management capabilities, advanced workflows, robust infrastructure, and cloud-based platform, the Alma solution will assist the Harvard Library in achieving its goal of actively managing print and online collections within a single framework throughout the entire library network.
”One of the strategic objectives we have at Harvard Library is to enable effective access to the world of knowledge and data through intuitive discovery, networks of expertise, and global collaborations,” explained Sarah Thomas, Vice President for the Harvard Library, University Librarian, and the Roy E. Larsen Librarian for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. ”Alma is a robust platform that brings us the functionality, ease of use, and cloud services that will help us reach our immediate objectives and our long-term goals.”
Matti Shem Tov, president of Ex Libris, commented, ”Harvard Library has been a long-standing partner of Ex Libris, running the Aleph® ILS since 2000 and the Primo® discovery and delivery solution since 2014. The Library’s decision to implement Alma is evidence of Alma’s position as the library management service of choice for the top academic institutions around the globe. I am thrilled that Harvard has now joined our extensive Alma community and look forward to the Library’s contributions to this active group. ”
