Jerusalem, Israel — February 9, 2018
Jerusalem, Israel—February 9, 2018. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Ex Libris Leganto™ course resource list solution is now live at 45 institutions, providing instructors, students, and librarians with all the functionality needed for creating, maintaining, and using reading lists.
A banner year for the Leganto solution, 2017 saw a great increase in the number of Leganto customers. A total of 77 institutions in 15 countries, including two consortia—Cooperating Libraries In Consortium (CLIC) in Minnesota and the BIBSYS Library System Consortium in Norway—have opted for the resource list solution.
Institutions using Leganto resource lists have found that the flow of information and resources between libraries, academic staff, and students has improved dramatically. The libraries have become more central to teaching and learning while optimizing staff time through automated workflows. In addition, the Leganto solution is helping lower the costs of course materials for both students and libraries by automatically identifying resources that are available through the library, alerting the library of materials that have been requested, and supporting pay-per-use copyright licensing.
University of Denver Access Services Librarian Ryan Buller explained, “This is our first semester using the Leganto reading list solution. We are confident that students will enjoy the ease with which they can now access course readings, and we anticipate that the simple Leganto interface will enable faculty members to create reading lists by themselves. These benefits should result in greater usage of our library’s resources and a lowering of the cost of materials for students.”
Now embedded as an essential part of the learning environment at Curtin University, the Leganto reading list solution has brought the library closer to our academic partners and improved the learning environment for students.
Angela Laurins, manager of Library Learning Services at the University of Edinburgh, commented, “Using the Leganto solution for our Resource Lists service has enabled us to improve workflows and connections between teams who create lists, acquire content, and manage print collections to support taught courses. Leganto helps us achieve our objective of providing timely access to resources in sufficient quantities and in a consistent way for students. The number of courses using the Resource Lists service has increased since we implemented the Leganto system, and we have seen greater engagement with the service by academic staff than in previous years. Using the Alma Analytics module, we’re hoping to be able to join cost analysis with usage in all areas (including Leganto lists) and to provide benchmark statistics and analyses of trends over time.”
Curtin University Library Associate Director Peter Green said, “Now embedded as an essential part of the learning environment at Curtin University, the Leganto reading list solution has brought the library closer to our academic partners and improved the learning environment for students. The creation of over 1,000 reading lists with nearly 40,000 citations in our first full year of operation has provided our nearly 900 instructors and a cohort of over 35,000 students with more than 300,000 full-text views—quite an achievement and one that reflects Curtin University’s focus on innovation and excellence.”
Shlomi Kringel, Ex Libris vice president of learning and research solutions, commented, “We are excited to see the remarkable adoption of the Leganto resource list solution by instructors and students around the world. We look forward to helping even more institutions create an engaging teaching and learning experience while reducing the cost of course resources.”
