Part of a European Union program, the Virtual Library unifies and promotes the province’s historic cultural and literary collections
Warsaw, Poland—May 13, 2014. ALEPH Polska Ltd., the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris solutions in Poland, is happy to announce that the partners of the Lublin Virtual Library project have opted for the Primo® discovery and delivery solution and the SFX® OpenURL link resolver.
Lublin Virtual Library is a consortial project undertaken by seven academic and cultural libraries that create and publish digital collections in the Lublin region:
- John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin
- Maria Curie-Skłodowska University
- Medical University of Lublin
- H. Łopaciński Regional Public Library
- H. Łopaciński City Library of Lublin
- Zamość Public Library
- Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre Center
The project forms part of the European Union’s Regional Operational Programme in Lublin. Among the project’s goals are the implementation of a platform connecting the digital assets of all libraries and cultural institutions in the province of Lublin and an increase in the visibility of traditional materials available at the region’s public and university libraries.
Ex Libris Primo will provide a single interface for all digital, physical, and electronic assets of the member institutions, as well as a separate view for each institution. The implementation will integrate Primo and SFX with the consortium’s VTLS Virtua integrated library system, several locally developed systems, and multiple digital asset management systems.
”We are looking forward to using Primo to provide our community with easy, intuitive access to our regional cultural assets,” commented Artur ?ciborek, Lublin Virtual Library project manager. “In light of the experience and professional competence of both the Ex Libris and the ALEPH Polska teams, we are confident that the solutions will be implemented swiftly and successfully.”
Maciej Dziubecki, CEO of ALEPH Polska, remarked: ”The adoption of Primo and SFX is a great opportunity that will enable Lublin province to offer access to all of the region’s cultural assets via one system. Easy to use for nonprofessional library patrons, Primo also meets the needs of researchers and other advanced users. Through Primo, the consortium will expose many valuable documents to the public and will also promote the province of Lublin.”
Ullrich Jüngling, Ex Libris vice president of sales for central, eastern, and southeastern Europe, added: “We are pleased to welcome the Lublin Virtual Library team to the steadily growing international Ex Libris community. We look forward to working with this prestigious consortium and welcome the expansion of the Polish Primo customer base, following the successful recent launch of Primo at other institutions in Poland.”
