About the NASA Langley Research Center:
NASA’s Langley Research Center has helped the United States become the world’s aerospace technology leader since its founding in 1917. Langley contributed crucial elements to the Mercury, Gemini, Lunar Orbiter, Apollo, Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs and led NASA’s Viking missions to Mars. Langley developed the world’s first integrated hypersonic vehicle, the “Hyper-X,” which was successfully flight-tested in 2004. Today, Langley engineers and scientists are devising cutting-edge aviation technologies and materials, working to understand the Earth’s climate and designing and testing the vehicles and systems that will take humans back to the moon and on to Mars.
