The University’s Information Center now offers a suite of Ex Libris cloud-based discovery and delivery solutions to students and researchers
Hamburg, Germany—June 5, 2013. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that Sabanci University in Turkey is now in production with a cloud-based implementation of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution. In addition, the university has subscribed to the bX article recommender service —also cloud based—and has moved its SFX® OpenURL link resolver to the Ex Libris cloud environment.
With Primo, users explore their locally managed collections along with global and regional resources indexed in the Primo Central Index of scholarly electronic materials, an integral part of Primo, and obtain one blended, relevance-ranked result list. Integrated with the Primo implementation, the bX Recommender provides article-level recommendations generated from the usage data of thousands of researchers around the world.
”In our quest for a discovery system that would enable our users to access all our collections via a single search, we considered Primo’s personalized relevance ranking a major advantage,” commented Deniz Baltac?, project manager at Sabanc? University Information Center. ”By tailoring results to the particular academic level and discipline of a user, Primo enables us to serve each researcher in his or her own context.” Flexible options for configuring facets were also important to the discovery-tool selection team, which carried out a comprehensive evaluation of commercial discovery systems before selecting Primo.
”We chose the TotalCare cloud deployment for Primo to reduce the technical burden on staff members, thereby giving them more time to support users’ research and learning activities,” added Deniz Baltac?.
Koby Rosenthal, general manager of Ex Libris Europe, commented: ”I am delighted to see this successful project come to fruition as a result of our close collaboration with Sabanc? University during the implementation stage. As Ex Libris continues its transition to the provision of cloud-based solutions, we see more and more institutions that recognize the substantial benefits of cloud services for their staff and user community.”
