Ex Libris is pleased to announce that ScienceDirect and Scopus are now both enabled for MetaLib®, the Ex Libris™ portal product. ScienceDirect and Scopus are Elseviers primary science, technology, medicine and social science research information services. The new feature is the result of the MetaLib KnowledgeBase update released by Ex Libris, which extends MetaLibs MetaSearch® functionality, allowing end users to search and retrieve results from ScienceDirect and Scopus.
With MetaLib, an institution can manage today’s hybrid information resources- be they local or remote- under one umbrella. Using the MetaLib portal, library patrons can conduct a MetaSearch across heterogeneous resources. From the search results, links are available directly to ScienceDirect and Scopus, providing seamless, single-click access to full-text articles and abstracts on these platforms. This service is freely available to all MetaLib customers that have a full ScienceDirect and/or Scopus license.
This collaboration with Ex Libris signifies Elseviers continued commitment to providing widespread access to research literature, and comes in addition to federated search access to ScienceDirect and Scopus from ENCompass, the federated search portal from Elseviers Endeavor. Next to Elseviers own highly popular and intuitive user interfaces, end users can now search ScienceDirect and Scopus through MetaLibs integrated library portal, thereby increasing their options for finding the high-value information they need. As a result, both Elseviers premier peer-reviewed literature in ScienceDirect, and abstracts from over 14,000 journals and 4,000 publishers in Scopus are made even easier for researchers to access and search.
Scopus and ScienceDirect are committed to making it as quick and easy as possible for researchers to find the research information they need, said Amanda Spiteri, marketing director for ScienceDirect and bibliographic databases. By enabling search with MetaLib we are liberating the researcher and expanding his options to flexibly search these systems using whatever method he or she is most comfortable with. This represents a further step in opening up Elsevier’s content and increasing the interaction and interoperability with the library environment.
Chris Roberts, Product Manager, MetaLib KnowledgeBase, adds The MetaLib Central KnowledgeBase contains many configuration records that control searching of information resources. Ex Libris works with its customers to determine the highest priority resources and works with information vendors to develop configurations to search their resources. The best of the configuration records are based on standard technologies provided by the information vendor, such as z39.50 and XML gateways. This integration is the result of requests from the MetaLib user community and represents cooperation between Ex Libris and Elsevier. Ex Libris is pleased to be able to provide searching of ScienceDirect and Scopus via MetaLib using Elseviers XML Gateway.
