Ex Libris™ (Germany) is pleased to announce that the Bavarian Library Network (BVB), which chose DigiTool® 3.0 in late 2005, is now using this system as the basis for its central repository. During the last few years, the members of the Bavarian Library Network have been involved in a large-scale digitalization effort of their collections. DigiTool will now serve as the central system for Management, delivery, and archiving of digitized/multimedia objects belonging to the participating libraries. These collections will initially be made available to patrons of the Bavarian State Library and the Regensburg University Library. Following this pilot phase, other libraries will be given access.
Following a very thorough market evaluation, the BVB Network chose DigiTool 3.0 for its modular, scalable architecture, open interfaces, and trouble-free data exchange with other applications, explains René Thomas, DigiTool Sales Representative. DigiTool was also praised for its flexibility in handling metadata and digital objects, as well as its ability to enable participating libraries to work in a common repository that displays individual collections autonomously, while exhibiting the source of objects in a perfectly transparent manner.
