Primo will provide a seamless discovery experience for library users at Imperial College London, Loughborough University, and the University of Nottingham
London, UK—November 30, 2010. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that three prominent academic institutions in the UK have chosen the Primo® discovery and delivery solution and the Primo Central Index of scholarly e-content to provide users with a unified search interface for their libraries’ vast collections and electronic resources. The newest members of the UK Primo community are Imperial College London, the University of Nottingham, and Loughborough University.
The world-class Primo Central Index is a mega-aggregate of scholarly content. Managed by Ex Libris in a cloud computing environment, Primo Central is vendor neutral and encompasses scholarly resources from leading information providers. Through the Primo discovery and delivery solution coupled with Primo Central, library users simultaneously explore the library’s local collections and extensive global electronic collections, instantly retrieving accurate, relevance-ranked search results.
At Imperial College London, Primo will provide a discovery layer enabling users to search the library’s SirsiDynix library catalog together with its digital and electronic resources. “Primo will help our research community make the very best use of the wealth of resources we provide for them,” noted Deborah Shorley, director of library services at Imperial College London. ”The flexibility and attractive interface of Primo make it the ideal choice for us, and we are certain that Imperial researchers and students will find it valuable.”
Ruth Jenkins, university librarian at Loughborough University, remarked: ”Primo is a cost-effective way of improving the user experience for our students and researchers. We are particularly pleased that Primo can be accessed from mobile phones, as this aligns with other projects we are developing to deliver services via mobile devices.”
”I am honoured that these important research institutions have selected Primo, as a one-stop research solution for their diverse collections,” commented Marc Daubach, Ex Libris corporate vice president and general manager for Europe. ”It is a great pleasure to see the UK and European Primo community expanding rapidly and benefiting from the active participation of such forward-looking libraries.”
