Tomas Bata University Central Library migrates to ALEPH 500—the system best suited to meet growing end-user and staff needs
Zlin, Czech Republic—February 20, 2007. The exclusive distributor of Ex Libris Group products in the Czech Republic announced today that following an extensive search for a new integrated library system to meet the growing requirements of librarians and library users, Tomas Bata University (TBU) in Zlin has chosen the Ex Libris ALEPH® 500 solution.
“After considering the whole situation, we opted for ALEPH 500”, says RNDr. Alexander Cerny, bursar of TBU in Zlin. “What spoke in the product’s favour was its robustness, openness, and ability to centralize information resources. This feature was very important to us, as the Central Library, in keeping with modern trends, attempts to acquire as much stock as possible in electronic form.
Another important reason for selecting ALEPH is the wide use of this system in academic library environments. It has become a standard within the Czech Republic. We welcome the potential of greater cooperation with other libraries using ALEPH. Also highly valued are the system’s online features and its simple and user-friendly interface”.
Following the successful completion of the conversion project, ALEPH 500 became fully operational in September 2006. The system currently includes cataloguing, circulation, and OPAC modules, as well as the ADAM module for accessing electronic objects. We plan to extend the system by adding serials control, interlibrary loans, and possibly other applications early in 2007″.
Although not the largest university in the Czech Republic, TBU in Zlin is one of the most dynamic and modern universities in terms of its spirit and equipment, says Pavel Krbec, representing the Ex Libris distributorship for the Czech Republic. The Central Library of Tomas Bata University in Zlin was formed after the establishment of the University in 2001 and provides information resources to the over 11,000 patrons affiliated with this rapidly developing institution.
