Ex Libris Aleph, Primo, SFX, and MetaLib solutions will revolutionize library services for this Vietnamese university
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam—August 16, 2017. TED Engineering Documents JSC, sole distributor of Ex Libris library solutions in Vietnam, is happy to announce that the Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) library has successfully implemented and gone live with a number of Ex Libris library software solutions, including the Aleph® integrated library system (ILS), Primo® discovery and delivery solution, SFX OpenURL link resolver, and MetaLib® gateway and metasearch solution. Along with Primo, the library will benefit from cloud-based data services such as the Primo Central Index—a mega-index of over 1.7 billion records from hundreds of global scholarly e-resources; the bX® recommender service, which provides recommendations of related articles for further reading; and other features that facilitate exploration and serendipitous discovery.
Truong Thi Ngoc Mai, vice director of the TDTU library and a member of the coordinated implementation team, remarked, ”We are pleased to be implementing Ex Libris library solutions to provide a stable and professional back-end environment for our librarians and a unified one-stop shop for our patrons, enabling them to easily discover all print resources, digital collections, and e-resources. We are particularly thrilled by the Aleph Course Reading and Reserves module, which produces a search scope for course materials—a capability that was unavailable in our previous ILS.”
Duong Tich Dat, a developer team leader in TDTU’s Department of Computing and Computer Services and a member of the coordinated implementation team, commented, ”The openness and flexibility of the Ex Libris solutions enabled us to integrate them successfully with other management applications, such as our access control system, LDAP and single sign-on (SSO) system, training and student information, finance management systems, and elearning management system. Furthermore, Ex Libris APIs, Web Services, and comprehensive documentation will facilitate system integrations.”
Librarian To Sanya Minh Kha of the TDTU library’s Information Resource Division and a member of the coordinated implementation team noted, ”The Ex Libris solutions are in line with international standards and conform to the university’s user-oriented learning commons environment. The Aleph ILS, for example, interconnects effectively with library automation equipment such as our 24/7 RFID return system with automatic sorting and self-check stations, and librarians enjoy flexible configuration options for cataloging and circulation policies.”
Trinh Phi Cuong, head of the TDTU Department of Computing and Computer Services and leader of the coordinated implementation team, added, ”The excellent collaboration between the implementation teams from TDTU and TED overcame challenges that arose during the implementation and configuration process and brought the new library management system into operation on time as scheduled by the university.”
Ex Libris VP for Asia Pacific Ziv Benzvi commented, ”We warmly welcome Ton Duc Thang University to the expanding global Ex Libris user community, and we are delighted that TDTU is now benefiting from the Aleph ILS, Primo discovery, SFX, and MetaLib. We hope that many other academic institutions in Vietnam will follow this successful example.”
TED Engineering Documents Director Vu Sy Dzung said, ”TDTU is a young university with a strategic vision of creating a research-oriented, innovative, and friendly learning commons environment. With the Ex Libris solutions, the university is now able to provide better library services and technological facilities for patrons and lecturers.”
