Ex Libris™, part of Clarivate™, is excited to announce that Alma experienced significant growth in Latin America with 14 new institutions selecting the platform in 2024. This brings the total number of institutions using the cloud-based library management system in the region to nearly 60.

The growth of Alma in Latin America is a testament to the evolving needs of libraries in the region. As many libraries transition from legacy systems, Alma’s modern, cloud-based solution offers a timely and effective upgrade. The surge is attributed to Alma’s proven performance and positive feedback from existing customers within the region, creating a domino effect among academic libraries.

Here’s what some of the new customers had to say about their decisions to select Alma:

  • “There are two primary reasons for choosing Alma – it’s a cloud-based and unified platform. As a cloud-based platform Alma reduces the need for onsite servers, which minimizes IT overhead. It also is a unified platform that streamlines library workflows across print, electronic, and digital resources. We are a small library, but the system will grow with our library needs, accommodating changes in collection size and complexity.”Stacyann Quinterra, Director of Library Services, University of the Southern Caribbean

  • “Alma and Primo represents a significant transformation for our institution. This advanced discovery system will substantially improve the experience of our users, reducing the time necessary to perform information searches and research. The integration with artificial intelligence not only modernizes us, but also allows us to adapt to new technologies, positioning our library unit as the knowledge center of the future.” Lázaro Lam Portales, Head of Library, Universidad Central de Chile

  • “The choice of Alma is based on its ability to adapt to the demands of the current information environment, which will allow us not only to modernize the infrastructure of our system, but also to enrich the user experience. This migration is a strategic step in our path of digital transformation and continuous improvement in the quality of the UNAB library service.” Claudia Catalan Hernandez, General Director, Library System, Universidad Andrés Bello

Alma’s ability to unify the management of print, electronic, and digital materials, along with its powerful analytics tools, has been a key factor in its success. It’s use of AI, integration with other systems, and advanced automated services further modernizes today’s library and prepares them for the future.

“The combination of a strong customer base and a future-ready service is meeting the needs of a rapidly evolving region,” said remarked Alfredo Bronsoiler, Regional Sales Director, Clarivate™. “We look forward to bringing Alma to more libraries, solidifying its position as the leading library management system and moving libraries forward.”
