Ex Libris™, part of Clarivate™, is excited to announce that Covenant University in Ota, Nigeria, is now using Alma and Primo. The unified resource management and discovery solutions are part of a digital transformation that aligns with the university’s aim of improving teaching, learning, and research experiences to enhance overall outcomes for faculty and students.
The adoption of Alma and Primo comes at a time when Covenant’s collection development focus is moving more towards digital and electronic resources, which supplement their 150,000-item print collection. Library staff are better able to manage all types of resources more effectively through Alma and make them more accessible through Primo. The unified services provide deeper capabilities than previous solutions in use at Covenant, deliver faster resource activation and easier discovery, streamline access to curated topical collections.
“The Covenant Online Learning Resource and Information System (COLRIS) powered by Alma Primo is a welcome development for us at Covenant as this widens the options and scope of the learning resources available to faculty, staff, and students at Covenant,” said Professor Abiodun, H. Adebayo, Vice Chancellor at Covenant University. “There is no doubt that it will stimulate and improve our teaching and research engagements.”
Dr. Ada Peter, Director of the Center for Learning Resources, added, ”After 28 online training sessions, 52 calls, a one-week intensive workshop, two certifications (now four), over 1,000 email exchanges, a trip to Harvard University Library, two data migrations, one sandbox exploration, and 180+ days curating collections and resources for 334 RCAABUT courses, with 700 more to go, the overall value of having Alma and Primo is clear. These systems enhance teaching, learning, and the research experience—critical components of any great university focused on achieving impressive graduate outcomes.”
The library kicked off its launch of the two services with live, in-person presentations to over 1,000 university faculty and staff and nearly 8,000 students. The focus of the presentations highlighted how much easier this digital transformation would make everyone’s work easier and more interesting.
Details about Covenant University’s journey with Alma and Primo were showcased last week at the International Group of Ex Libris Users (IGeLU) 2024 Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark,. Dr. Peter, along with her colleague, Ifeakachuku Osinulu, Systems Librarian at Covenant University, presented “Migrating to Alma/Primo VE: The Covenant University Experience” and joined more than 600 other conference attendees to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and come together as a community.
