National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, Taiwan’s first and only vocational university focused on hospitality and tourism, transformed its library services by transitioning from Aleph™ to the cloud-based Alma™ and Primo™ systems. Despite having a small staff of nine, the library successfully implemented these new platforms to streamline workflows and enhance services for its community of nearly 5,000 faculty and students.

The implementation, though conducted on a tight schedule, enabled several innovative services. These included a “Book Preview Service” allowing patrons to borrow newly published books before processing, effectively letting users influence collection development. The library also created a “Professional Collection” within two months of launch, providing quick access to hospitality and tourism resources, including professional journals, case studies, and language learning materials.

Other improvements included linking course reserves with thematic exhibitions, curating themed collections, and utilizing the Alma Community Zone to expedite electronic resource availability. The library’s successful transformation was marked by strong team collaboration and a user-centered approach, demonstrated through initiatives like the “Launch Meet and Greet” event featuring scenario-based learning activities for users.
