The Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is a key center of Hungary’s national research support system. The Library was founded in 1826, just 6 months after the Hungarian Academy of Sciences which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. As a national public collection, it maintains printed, manuscript, archival and other information media, preserving the values of national and international cultural heritage. At the same time it performs the task of disseminating scientific knowledge and promoting scientific work through open science services such as its repository, REAL. In addition to its traditional function as a public collection, it has two national public functions: the Hungarian Science Bibliography and the Electronic Information Service National Programme.
