Ex Libris™, part of Clarivate, is pleased to announce that University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions Library Consortium (USMAI) and its member libraries have successfully launched the Alma library management system and Primo library discovery service. USMAI becomes the forty-seventh collaborative network to modernize its library systems by using both proven Ex Libris services together as a unified consortial solution.

This Ex Libris consortial approach strengthens connections across USMAI and its member institutions, while also advancing research, service, and student success. The consortium and libraries work better together and benefit from more streamlined workflows in acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resource licensing and management, circulation, and more. The unified system further supplies an improved user experience with a faster search, a more user-friendly and effective search interface, discovery-specific customizations, and seamless integrations.

“The launch of Alma/Primo marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration for USMAI and its members,” said David Dahl, Interim Executive Director of USMAI. “The efforts of our staff and support from Ex Libris to accomplish this migration is an investment in ourselves, realizing greater efficiencies and effectiveness and positioning USMAI for future partnerships and initiatives.”

“Migrating from an outdated library system to Alma/Primo has provided much more intuitive access to students, faculty, and staff from USMAI’s seventeen member libraries, which is vital for supporting student success and advancing research,” said Suzanna Yaukey, Dean of University Libraries at Towson University and chair of the Council of Library Directors for USMAI. “Additionally, our library staff and faculty are better able to steward materials held by our institutions and beyond.”

USMAI libraries join more than other 2,100 institutions that are live with the unified Alma and Primo cloud-based approach delivered by Ex Libris integrated library system. They’ll benefit from continued training, support, and enriched services based on extensive Alma and Primo product roadmaps – which will add to current Linked Open Data services and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
