The second member of the 23-campus California State University system to choose Alma, San Marcos joins over 160 institutions worldwide
Chicago, IL—July 1, 2013. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that California State University San Marcos has selected the Alma library management service and the Primo® discovery and delivery solution. The university library will consolidate library operations under Alma, which will replace a number of systems, including the Innovative Interfaces® Millennium integrated library system.
The decision to collaborate with Ex Libris came as part of a campus-wide strategy to migrate systems to the cloud with the goal of reducing the technical burden on library staff members so that they can focus on other initiatives. Dean of the Library and Chief Information Officer Wayne Veres commented: ”As unified cloud-based solutions, Alma and Primo will eliminate many of our duplicate workflows and help us respond more rapidly to users’ needs. The seamless integration of both solutions with other campus systems, including PeopleSoft and our e-learning tools, means that the library will play a major role in achieving the university’s academic objectives.”
The sophisticated relevance ranking and intuitive interface of Primo were also important factors in the university’s decision. ”In addition,” noted Veres, ”Primo will enhance our users’ research experience by integrating more library services into the discovery interface. Requesting a book, renewing a borrowed item, or accessing an e-journal article directly from Primo, without having to switch to another interface, will enable students to more easily obtain the information needed to fulfill their course requirements.”
Mark Triest, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: ”California State University San Marcos joins more than 160 institutions worldwide that have chosen to revitalize their library operations by moving to the cloud-based Alma service. With its decision to adopt Ex Libris solutions for both resource management and resource discovery, the university is positioning its library to make a greater contribution to the success of students, faculty, and researchers in its learning community while also delivering new services in support of the university’s strategic vision.”
CSU San Marcos is the second member of the California State University system to opt for Alma, joining California State University, Sacramento.
