Alma and Primo will play a central role in supporting research and facilitating collaboration among the province’s libraries
Chicago, IL—May 25, 2016. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Consortium of Academic and Special Libraries of Saskatchewan (CASLS) has selected the Ex Libris Alma® resource management service and Primo® discovery and delivery solution to create a unified resource management and discovery environment that offers comprehensive and convenient access to library materials. Alma and Primo will replace Voyager and SirsiDynix Symphony.
Aligning with the CASLS values of cooperation, diversity, and flexibility, Alma and Primo will provide the benefits of consortial collaboration while enabling members to create separate policies and configurations within their respective institutional environments. The system will unify the management of all the resources that each library in the consortium owns and will make them available to end users for discovery and delivery.
”The Ex Libris cloud solution optimally fulfills our requirements through its advanced functionality and system architecture as well as its data migration plan, workflow efficiencies, and ability to integrate with our campus and external systems. Equally as important, we value the strong Ex Libris record of innovation and the company’s well-thought-out roadmap for improving its systems to meet academic and research library needs,” explained Carol MacDonald, the head of systems development and implementation at the University of Regina. ”The Ex Libris Alma‑Primo combination will serve the CASLS libraries well into the future, with the integration of the system’s workflows in a single interface and plans for new integrations and cooperative initiatives that will now be enabled for CASLS members.”
Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: ”We are pleased to welcome CASLS to the community of over 20 consortia benefiting from Alma and Primo. The consortium’s choice of Alma and Primo will provide library users with truly seamless access to library resources while respecting the institutional mandates of each library. This next-generation library system will enable partner libraries to consolidate staff workflows via a unified library-services platform that integrates smoothly with a shared discovery interface, thus exposing and providing access to the materials in all of the consortium members’ collections.”
