The unified search interface of Primo will increase the discoverability of the Library’s many varied and unique collections
London, UK–March 12, 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the UK’s Durham University has selected the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery system for the University Library and Heritage Collections. Library users will enjoy faster searches in a more intuitive interface, which will be seamlessly integrated with the Library’s Innovative Interfaces system.
”We chose Primo because it offers a single search interface that is highly configurable,” commented University Librarian Jon Purcell. ”Because our collections span modern printed books, e-journals, archives, medieval manuscripts, and ancient artifacts in our museums, users will benefit from being able to search for different types of materials through one system. In addition, we will have the flexibility to offer additional Primo views with specialist search and filtering facilities where needed. The use of Primo will also help us raise awareness of the breadth and quality of Durham University’s unique Heritage Collections, as well as publicize other research collections in the Northeast of the UK that will be indexed by our system. Equipped with Primo, the Library will provide valuable support for Durham University’s regional, national, and international strategies.”
Christoph Frech, regional sales director at Ex Libris, stated: ”The evaluation carried out by Durham University Library was thorough and professional, and we are delighted that Primo emerged as the clear winner. It is gratifying to see another Millennium customer choosing Primo as the discovery layer. We are looking forward to working with the Library to implement Primo, thus enabling the university’s large user community to easily discover and access the Library’s unique archives and institutional repositories.”
