Delivered by the British Library, theses from UK institutions of higher education will be easily accessible to users around the world
London, UK—May 22, 2012. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the UK Electronic Theses Online Service (EThOS) will soon be searchable in the Primo Central Index. EThOS is the UK’s national e-thesis database, containing over 300,000 doctoral theses from institutions of higher education.
The Primo Central Index, a cloud-based service adopted by hundreds of libraries around the globe, is an integral part of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution. As a one-stop service, Primo enables users to fulfill their information needs by exploring their library’s locally managed collections along with global and regional resources indexed in Primo Central, and to obtain one blended, relevance-ranked result list.
Kevin Schurer, pro-vice chancellor for research and enterprise at Leicester University and chair of the EThOS board, commented: ”We’re delighted that EThOS records will be included in the Primo Central Index. The EThOS Electronic Theses Online Service is the United Kingdom’s national e thesis database, which lists over 300,000 records of UK doctoral theses from virtually all UK universities. Users can download the full text of almost 60,000 theses held in the EThOS database, follow links to copies available directly from the awarding universities, or order a digital copy of a paper thesis. On behalf of its member institutions, EThOS provides a record of the doctoral research outputs of UK higher education, increases the visibility of the theses and UK research itself, and supports the open-access requirements of research funders. EThOS is delivered by the British Library on behalf of higher education under a shared service arrangement. Member institutions are represented by an EThOS board that provides strategic leadership and ensures that EThOS meets its stated aims.
