William & Mary is the tenth member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries to choose Ex Libris cloud solutions
Chicago, IL—January 04, 2016. Ex Libris® a ProQuest company®, a leading global provider of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the College of William & Mary in Virginia has adopted the Ex Libris Alma® resource management solution and the Primo® discovery solution. Alma will replace the College’s existing SirsiDynix library system.
William & Mary College chose Alma and Primo following an evaluation of other commercial solutions. A member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries, the college required a solution that would enable students and faculty to enjoy easy access to its wealth of scholarly resources.
Georgie L. Donovan, Associate Dean of Collections & Content Services, commented: ”The integration on a single platform of discovery, library management, knowledge base, link resolver authority work, ERM, and reporting was central to our decision to adopt Alma and Primo. In addition, their software as a service (SaaS) deployment promises that updates will be continuous, simultaneous with other customers, and without installation processes that rely on our management. Most importantly, Primo offers an elegant, user friendly interface, where our clients will be easily able to find the wonderful materials which we collect. We thought it was important that any public discovery catalog give a strong, accurate presentation of our e-resources, while maintaining browsability of print resources (via virtual shelf browsing), and the integration with book covers, table of contents, and other helpful print content.”
Ms. Donovan continued: ”Alma also opens doors to closer collaboration with our partners in Virginia, such as Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University. We hope to begin resource sharing and other avenues of collaboration as soon as we implement Alma and Primo.”
Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked. ”We are proud to welcome William & Mary College to the Alma and Primo community in North America. Primo will enable this historic institution to expose and make accessible its rich and extensive collections, while Alma will help the University Library strengthen its ties with partners in Virginia who are already using Alma to help accomplish their parent institutions’ strategic goals.”
