Jerusalem, Israel—September 14, 2006. Ex Libris™ and Cambridge University Press are pleased to announce the integration of MetaLib® and Cambridge Journals Online, the Cambridge University Press database of articles from more than 200 academic journals. MetaLib, the Ex Libris library portal and metasearch tool, can now search the Cambridge University Press XML gateway and retrieve Cambridge Journals Online results.
Cambridge University Press and Ex Libris collaboratively developed the Cambridge University Press XML gateway, which uses the Search/Retrieve via URL (SRU) protocol. The new XML gateway enables MetaLib users to include Cambridge Journals Online along with other databases in a single search, retrieving records from all these databases.
We believe that MetaLib and metasearch will help our readers reach our content and that use of the SRU protocol has provided an effective way to do this, noted Chris Fell, systems development manager for journals at Cambridge University Press.
Nina Keren-David, MetaLib support, implementation, and knowledge base manager, added, We are delighted to be the first metasearch application to offer its customers access to Cambridge Journals Online, one of the MetaLib user communitys most requested databases. We are pleased that Cambridge University Press shares the Ex Libris commitment to using standards-based technologies that provide effective, stable searching platforms. We salute the collaborative effort that has resulted in the release of the new Cambridge University Press XML gateway.
