Library Automation Solution Adds Support for Multilingual Content
Cambridge, Mass., and Jerusalem, Israel—March 13, 2013. Basis Technology, the global leader in multilingual text analytics, and Ex Libris® Group, a top provider of library automation solutions, announced that Ex Libris has licensed the Rosette® linguistics platform from Basis Technology for integration into the Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Rosette enables search-based applications to analyze complex multilingual documents, including those written in Chinese.
In light of its rapid expansion in mainland China and Chinese-speaking countries, Ex Libris will now enhance Chinese searching through the integration of the Rosette platform’s Base Linguistics module. Base Linguistics provides morphological analyses of multilingual text by examining distinct features in each language, such as punctuation, words, and affixes. Search engines rely on essential linguistic services provided by Rosette, including tokenization, lemmatization, decompounding, part-of-speech tagging, sentence-boundary detection, and noun-phrase extraction.
David Beychok, vice president for discovery and delivery solutions at Ex Libris, commented: ”Academic and research libraries in mainland China and Chinese-speaking countries represent a growing sector of the Primo customer base, which comprises over 1,300 institutions in 53 countries. Leveraging Rosette in Primo will benefit our customers in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and others around the world with significant holdings in the Chinese language.”
”We’re excited to be working with Ex Libris, and we are confident that Rosette will enable Primo to deliver the high-precision, high-relevance results that research libraries demand,” remarked Steve Cohen, chief operating officer at Basis Technology.
