Maintaining independence from content providers played a decisive role in Mason’s decision to adopt Ex Libris Primo
Chicago, IL—June 20, 2012. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library technology solutions, is pleased to announce that George Mason University Libraries have selected the Primo® discovery and delivery system. Combined with the Primo Central Index of scholarly e-resources, the Primo system enables users to search the entire spectrum of a library’s collections—e-resources, physical holdings, and digital collections—through a single point of access, and to receive a single, relevance-ranked list of results.
”Content independence was key,” commented Wally Grotophorst, associate university librarian for digital programs and systems at George Mason University. ”Preserving our independence from particular content providers was a significant factor in our decision to work with Ex Libris.”
George Mason also recognized that the advanced functionality and open architecture of Primo set it apart from other solutions. ”Our evaluation showed that Primo is the only commercial solution that offers full OPAC integration, providing faculty and researchers with a truly unified discovery experience,” added Mr. Grotophorst.
”We look forward to collaborating with George Mason University to implement Primo,” remarked Mark Triest, president of Ex Libris North America. ”The university’s implementation will coincide with the release of Primo version 4.0, which demonstrates the system’s continuing evolution as an advanced discovery layer.”
