JULAC’s eight member libraries will use Alma and Primo to build collections and deliver innovative services
Hong Kong—June 7, 2016. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) has selected the Ex Libris Alma® resource management service and Primo® discovery and delivery solution. The Hong Kong consortium of eight academic libraries will use Alma and Primo solutions to enable a shared library services platform (rather than an individual ILS deployment) that will align with JULAC’s stated strategy of deep collaboration.
JULAC is the premier body for deep collaboration related to scholarly information resources and services in Hong Kong academia. Through its collaborative efforts, JULAC creates an environment where scholarly resources are collected, managed, and shared. The consortium’s delivery of innovative services enhances the academic endeavors of the eight higher education institutions funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Member libraries are the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Lingnan University, and the University of Hong Kong.
Replacing eight stand-alone systems, JULAC expects Alma to exceed traditional ILS capabilities in managing, building, and sharing the combined collections of JULAC libraries, and with Primo, looks forward to the improvement of the research experience for the students, researchers, and faculty members of JULAC institutions.
”Ex Libris cloud solutions allow the sharing of resources, services, and analytics while reducing repetitive activity,” explained Diana Chan, JULAC chair and university librarian at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. ”We want to have a unified workflow and management of both print and electronic resources.”
Ziv BenZvi, Ex Libris vice president for Asia Pacific, remarked, ”I am delighted that JULAC is now the 25th consortium to choose Alma and will join the numerous consortia that benefit from the advanced functionality of both Alma and Primo. We look forward to further collaboration with JULAC and to seeing the consortium’s users enjoy truly seamless access to library resources.”
