Replacing Ithaca College’s current system, the Rapido platform will help the library lower costs, streamline workflows, and improve the user experience
Jerusalem, Israel—June 28, 2021. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Ithaca College is the first institution in the United States to go live with the Ex Libris Rapido™ resource sharing platform. The College decided to move to the new platform earlier this year and will be using it to conduct resource sharing with partner libraries.
The Rapido platform simplifies and automates resource sharing between libraries. Intuitive Rapido processes save the staff valuable time and provide users with improved service and a shorter turnaround time.
The unified Rapido environment has some real strengths. The first is a reduction in costs, which were overwhelming with our previous environment. Like many other institutions, controlling costs is really important for us.
Previously, Ithaca carried out resource sharing via a mix of products and processes. “Our former environment was an old working model with a lot of breakdown points,” said Library System Specialist Dan Taylor. “In comparison, the unified Rapido environment has some real strengths. The first is a reduction in costs, which were overwhelming with our previous environment. Like many other institutions, controlling costs is really important for us.
“Another key strength is the efficiency of Rapido workflows. In the past, we had to monitor multiple systems and ensure that they interoperated properly. Now we see everything in one interface. The simple, unmediated Rapido workflows are a great plus and make things more efficient for us.”
Taylor described going live with the Rapido platform as “one of the smoother implementations we’ve done. The Ex Libris Rapido developers listened to any pain points we had and were super professional. We felt that we had a voice in the way things were being developed.”
A major reason for Ithaca College’s choice of the Rapido system was the streamlining of the user experience. “We value our students highly,” noted Taylor. “We want to make sure that we support teaching and learning with quick, easy, and efficient workflows. That’s what Rapido resource sharing does.”
“We are very proud of the go-live process at Ithaca College,” commented Ex Libris Vice President of Delivery Solutions Sharona Sagi. “One of the core concepts of the Rapido platform was simplicity—simplicity in the design of the user experience, the user workflows, the configurations, and more. The smooth implementation is the product of hard work and close collaboration between the Ithaca College and Rapido teams.”
